Basic Information;
Basic Information;
Character's Full Name: Catarina Serena Leone
Nicknames: Cat, Rina, Rini, Serena.
Age && Birthday: 18 && June 12th
Occupation: Patient
Appearance;
Catarina can best be described as an exotic beauty. While there are many girls who are pretty and sweet in appearance, Catarina’s attributes, while beautiful, are almost so intense that they appear intimidating and unapproachable. This is not aided by the fact that this daughter of Italians holds herself with an air of superiority and can most frequently be found looking down her nose at most people.
Catarina was blessed with an uncommon porcelain-like complexion. Her skin is smooth and soft, and is a milky, white color. Long, blonde hair cascades down her back in loose waves which she will sometimes straighten or curl, depending on what she feels like. Her hair is her pride and joy and she takes very good care of it, grooming it excessively. She can often be seen running her fingers through her long locks, or flicking it over her shoulder in order to enjoy the comforting weight of it upon her back.
Catarina’s face is beautiful as well, with angular, defined cheekbones and full, plump lips. Her chin and jaw are slightly pointed, giving her an eternal look of defiance and pride. Her eyes are her most entrancing feature; they are set below perfectly arched, slender blonde eyebrows and are a blue so vibrant that they frequently look as if they're waves of water. Against the milky white skin of her face, her eyes stand out like stars in the sky. Her eyes are heavily lidded and framed by long, black eyelashes.
She is tall-ish for a girl of her age, standing at 5’7” and towering over a lot of girls her age ('cause if you haven't noticed, people seem to be getting shorter and shorter every year), and even some boys. Catarina’s legs are long, her torso is flat and her breasts are a well fitting C-cup, giving her a very impressive silhouette with almost perfect measurements. She has elegant, long fingers which end in perfectly manicured nails. Sometimes she will paint them a ruby or blood red, other times she settles for a simple French manicure.
Catarina’s voice is something unique because it is quite deep and lustrous for a girl. However it is not unflattering upon her, for her voice tends to be velvety and smooth, kind of the way most jazz singers sound when singing. Her fashion sense is limited to inexpensive and yet stylish clothes which are always perfectly fitted to show off her good figure.
Personality;
Libra is the only inanimate sign of the zodiac, all the others representing either humans or animals. Many modern astrologers regard it as the most desirable of zodiacal types because it represents the zenith of the year, the high point of the seasons, when the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is reaped. There is a mellowness and sense of relaxation in the air as mankind enjoys the last of the summer sun and the fruits of his toil. Catarina is among the most civilized of humans. She has elegance, charm and good taste, is naturally kind, very gentle, and a lover of beauty, harmony (both in music and social living) and the pleasures that these bring.
Catarina has good critical faculty and is able to stand back and look impartially at matters which call for an impartial judgment to be made on them. But she does not tolerate argument from anyone who challenges her opinions, for once she has reached a conclusion, its truth seems to her self-evident; and among her faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval. But her characters are on the whole balanced, diplomatic and even tempered.
The girl is sensitive to the needs of others and has the gift, sometimes to an almost psychic extent, of understanding the emotional needs of her companions and meeting them with her own innate optimism - she is the kind of person of whom it is said, "They always make you feel better for having been with them." She is a very social human being. Catarina loathes cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity and detests conflict between people, so she does her best to cooperate and compromise with everyone around her, and her ideal for her own circle and for society as a whole is unity.
Her cast of mind is artistic rather than intellectual, though she is usually too moderate and well balanced to be avant guard in any artistic endeavor. She has good perception and observation and her critical ability, with which she is able to view her own efforts as well as those of others, gives her work integrity.
In Catarina’s personal relationships she shows understanding of the other person's point of view, trying to resolve any differences by compromise, and is often willing to allow claims against herself to be settled to her own disadvantage rather than spoil a relationship. She likes the opposite sex to the extent of promiscuity sometimes, and may indulge in romanticism bordering on sentimentality.
Her marriages, however, stand a good chance of success because she is frequently the union of "true minds". The Libran's continuing kindness toward her partner mollifies any hurt the latter may feel if the two have had a tiff. Nor can Catarina’s spouse often complain that he is not understood, for she is usually the most empathetic of most types and the most ready to tolerate the beloved’s failings.
The negative character may show frivolity, flirtatiousness and shallowness. It can be changeable and indecisive, impatient of routine, colorlessly conventional and timid, easygoing to the point of inertia, seldom angry when circumstances demand a show of annoyance at least; and yet Catarina can shock everyone around her with sudden storms of rage. Her love of pleasure may lead her into extravagance; Catarina can be extravagant, jealous and careless about money sometimes squander her wealth and talents in her over enthusiasm for causes which she espouse. She can become a great gossiper. A characteristic of her type is an insatiable curiosity that tempts her to inquire into every social scandal in her circle.
In Catarina’s work, the description "lazy Libra" which is sometimes given is actually more alliterative than true. She can be surprisingly energetic, though it is true that she dislikes coarse, dirty work. Although sometime she is modestly content, other times is extremely ambitious. With her dislike of extremes she would make a good diplomat but perhaps a poor party politician, for she is moderate in her opinions and able to see other points of view. She can succeed as an administrator, lawyer (she has a strong sense of justice, which cynics might say could handicap her in a legal career), antique dealer, civil servant and banker, for she is trustworthy in handling other people's money. Sometimes she is gifted in fashion designing or in devising new cosmetics; other times she may find success as an artist, composer, critic, writer, interior decorator, welfare worker or valuer, and she has an ability in the management of all sorts of public entertainment. Some work philanthropically for humanity with great self-disciple and significant results. She could make a good speculator, for she has the optimism and ability to recover from financial crashes.

History;
Catarina grew up in a fairly nice home. The town she lived in was exceedingly small (they only had one school for kids of all ages), but her home was rather large. It was a manor, with three stories and an attic. Nice furnishing and everything. Her grandfather had built it himself, her grandmother designing the interior. All in all, it was obvious if they ever decided to sell the house, they would get a lot of money for it. But they wouldn't, as they planned on that home being in the family for generations to come. Her parents had childhood memories there and so did she. Naturally, none of these memories included any English. You see, she's from Italy.
Her parents loved her to death, but never really found English important enough to learn... despite how America was currently the most powerful nation and Americans were running all over the world. Not many of them were found in her small town. You know, it was one of those towns where everybody knew everybody and there was gossip everywhere you turned. Catarina never paid it any mind, though. She was never one of the ones gossiped about (Except when she skipped sophomore year, people spread rumors it was because she slept with a professor, jealous punks). As she was never quite popular. No, she stuck to her little corner of the world doing her own thing and bothered no one else. But there were things she longed for, that she figured she would never receive.
Until one day, while she was in a cafe, her mother called her and told her that they had gotten her into the foreign exchange program at school, and in just one week she would be heading off to America. As you can probably guess, Catarina had rushed home and hadn't stopped packing or shopping or something having to do with her trip until it was time to go. Then it was there. She arrived in New Jersey to a local family. She had a week to get settled in, and for some of the people she was staying with to attempt and teach her English (it didn't go very well). The next week, she'd headed to an American school, though it's like a boarding school and she had to pack up some stuff and move in there. Catarina hoped she wouldn't fail everything miserably just because she couldn't understand their language. Not speaking English was her handicap, but hopefully it wouldn't hold her back from the learning experience.
Language barriers didn't last for long. She was an extremely intelligent girl and quick learner, so it was just about a month before she knew the English language. Though to be honest, she still isn't fluent. It's only been two years, after all. Anyways. Since she had arrived to America, she'd had frequent migraines. At first she thought it was due to the stress of having to learn a new language and keep up with school work. But after a few months, she began to have hallucinations. They became so severe that she couldn't decipher between what is and what isn't. The family she was staying with had her admitted to a local hospital while Catarina's family flew over from Italy so they could be with her. Considering her state of mind they didn't think it wise to transport her from one country to another.
After a few months her perception of reality became worse and worse. Everyone, her family and the family she was staying with decided committing her to a mental illness facility would be best for her, as she couldn't exactly go about in the normal world. So for the past year, at least, Catarina had been in a mental institution. However, recently, she's been running a high fever, her hallucinations just getting worse. She's severely ill now, and so because of this, and because her family cares for her deeply, they've convinced Princeton-Plainsboro teaching hospital to take her, as they do have the best doctors around, and no one seems to know what's been ailing the poor girl. It's only a matter of time before they cure her, and she's back to her life in the asylum... right?
Family Relationships;
catarina is close with everyone in her family, and could honestly say she loves them all the same. you know, when their noses or eyes aren't bigger than their entire face.
Your RP;
Catarina stared up at the ceiling of her room. Tomorrow was the first day of school. Or was it today? The girl hadn't been able to sleep since she had gotten in bed. Her heart was thumping too hard and she felt as if a frog were in the pit of her stomach which refused to settle down. Catarina turned over in her bed and stared at the clock. It was five in the morning. Now seemed the perfect time to get ready for her first day of school. School. Normally, Catarina wouldn't be this nervous or excited. However, it was Cat's first day at an American school. It was still hard to believe she was here. Every time she woke up, she expected to find herself in her bedroom back at home, in Italy. But no, she really was here. In De La Salle.
Sitting up in her bed, Catarina's eyes roamed the room. What to do first? Showering seemed the smart thing to do. So, with a small stretch, the girl got out of her bed, walking into the bathroom and began the water for the shower. She had a red robe wrapped around her, just waiting for the water to get warm enough. Once it was, she slipped the robe off and hopped into the shower. As she stood there, washing her hair and such, her mind began wondering what her first day would be like. Would anyone there know any Italian? Or French? Some people were bound to know French, as she was sure they offered that class as a foreign language course. So it would only be a matter of time until she bumped into one of those people.
The girl got out of the shower after turning the water off, drying herself off before heading back into the bedroom to dress herself. Her wardrobe consisted of mostly nice dresses and blouses and skirts that she had brought over. However, it was her first day, and she wanted to wear the clothes a friend had helped pick out for her. There was a white shirt that had some English on it, which was odd because she didn't understand a word. But with the help of an 'English to Italian' dictionary, she was able to understand what the words said. Something she rather liked, actually. Then she slipped on the blue jeans that had a few pre-given rips in them. Catarina had seen the style of the jeans in Italy, but she never understood paying extra money for ruined jeans when you could ruin perfectly fit jeans yourself for a lot cheaper. Nonetheless, they looked quite cute on her.
Finally, she was completely ready. Her hair dry and down and wavy, as usual, her make up light and not that noticeable. She didn't like over-doing it on make up. She stuck with light eyeliner and mascara, and occasionally some earthy tones of eyeshadow. Catarina looked at the clock. Six a.m. Well... now what she was going to do for another hour or two? Catarina crinkled her nose, thinking. She decided to occupy herself by reading her English to Italian dictionary. She found it quite amusing, as there were many English words that made no sense. There were three different ways to spell one word, and four to pronounce another. She would never understand English ways of thinking. But it mattered not. At the end of the year she'd probably be headed back to Italy. Unless her parents decided to let her go to college in America. That would be cool.
It was about another half hour before she left for school to meet up with her 'guide', and after her 'guide' showed her around a bit, they parted ways. She was heading to the cafeteria, for despite she ate in her dorm, she was still hungry. And to be frank, she was curious as to what kind of food the school had. It was unusual to be attending a school where only teenagers went, but it was a very nice change. Upon entering the cafeteria, her book bag slung over her shoulder, she couldn't help but just stand in the doorway, curious as to how she would communicate with the lunch lady to get some breakfast. This was going to be more difficult than she thought. Hm. Looking around once more, Catarina spotted another student and walked over, tapping the back of the student's shoulder. "M'excuser?" she said in French. She figured French was the best way to go with a stranger.
